Audience

Experienced users of Access (Windows 2000 or XP versions) or those with specific Access issues they would like help with. This course is ideal for anyone who has completed the Introduction to Microsoft Access course.

Skills Gained

At course completion you will be able to write secure queries for the purpose of handling batch updates and deletions for your database. You will have had the opportunity to write macros that run queries, make decisions at run time, are invoked by activating windows, from another macro and a menu etc.

Macros will also be used to control forms e.g. selecting and sizing, adding a record etc. Further time will be spent reviewing and discussing integration with applications such as Excel and Word. Finally, you will be made aware of areas of any database application that may impact performance and advice will be given on how you may improve performance.

  • Testing cascading updates and deletes
  • Find duplicate records queries
  • Find unmatched records queries
  • A review of macros
  • Macro writing: Actions, arguments, conditional testing, attaching to events, design window, invoking from another macro
  • Keys, menus etc. Using macros with forms for entry, updating and deleting
  • Setting form values via a macro
  • Debugging macros. Access integration. Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
  • Adding graphics to forms and reports
  • Excel and OLE, Word and OLE
  • Database performance issues
  • Indexing, data types
  • Computed fields versus stored fields
