PRINCE2 Practitioner

3 days

Have you seen the combo bundle for this course? Take advantage of the discount on our PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner Combo.

Included in this course is the PRINCE2 2017 Practitioner Exam. To assist in passing the exam you are permitted to use only the PRINCE2 2017 reference manual provided with the Foundation course.

Our PRINCE2 2017 Practitioner course is uniquely designed to provide the in-depth knowledge and understanding necessary to practice and apply the PRINCE2 2017 methodology.

Participants are required to exhibit the competence required from the PRINCE2 2017 Foundation qualification and show how they can apply PRINCE2 to address the needs of a project, the sponsoring organisation and the needs of various stakeholders, to a set of specific project scenarios.

It is important to know that some consolidation work will be required by candidates in the evenings; 3 hours should be allowed for this on the first day.

PRINCE2 2017 Practitioner Certification and Examination Passing the PRINCE2 2017 Foundation Examination is a pre-requisite to undertaking the PRINCE2 2017 Practitioner Examination. The exam is held on day 2 of the course.

The PRINCE2 2017 Practitioner Examination is:

  • Objective testing
  • 68 questions per paper
  • 38 marks required (out of 68 available) to pass: approximately 55%
  • 2.5 hours (150 minutes) duration, no additional reading time
  • Open book exam (official PRINCE2 2017 manual only)

Students are strongly encouraged to attend the Practitioner course immediately after the Foundation course. This is because the Practitioner exam requires strong current knowledge of the PRINCE2 2017 book. This knowledge is gained in the Foundation course and therefore is still fresh for assisting with passing the Practitioner exam.

Skills Gained

PRINCE2 is aimed at project managers and aspiring project managers. It is also relevant to other key staff involved in the design, development and delivery of projects, including: Project Board members (e.g. Senior Responsible Owners), Team Managers (e.g. Product Delivery Managers), Project Assurance (e.g. Business Change Analysts), Project Support (e.g. Project and Programme Office personnel) and operational line managers/staff.

The purpose of the Practitioner qualification is to confirm whether the candidate has achieved sufficient understanding of how to apply and tailor PRINCE2 in a scenario situation. A successful Practitioner candidate should, with suitable direction, be able to start applying the method to a real project but may not be sufficiently skilled to do this appropriately for all situations. Their individual project management expertise, complexity of the project and the support provided for the use of PRINCE2 in their work environment will all be factors that impact what the Practitioner can achieve.

By passing the Practitioner exam, candidates should be able to apply and understand how to tailor PRINCE2 effectively to a project within an organization environment supporting PRINCE2.

Delegates must have met the requirements outlined in the above 'Is it right for me?' section.

If you are new to PRINCE2 you are expected to have read the PRINCE2 text or refreshed your PRINCE2 knowledge before attending this programme. It is recommended that you complete the pre-course activities as you will be examined on the current version of PRINCE2. This PRINCE2 Practitioner Conversion programme is designed to prepare delegates to pass the Practitioner exam, rather than teaching the PRINCE2 method itself. To prepare for this intensive course, a sound understanding of project management is required.

To assist you with your preparation for the practitioner exam, Hemsley Fraser has devised a study plan. The course entails a significant amount of pre-course work and evening work during the course.

Our advice is to do as much pre-work as possible, to give you the best chance of success.

The pre-course work involves:

  • Reading the PRINCE2 manual and supporting summaries. This should be read before the course, and used during your classroom training to support your continued learning of PRINCE2 .
  • Watching a summary video and accessing our online Foundation exam simulator and sample Practitioner exam paper.
