Overview

This course provides delegates with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain the successful day-to-day operation of a VME system running on a platform. It has been designed to give a basic understanding of the superNOVA hardware and VME operating system together with practical experience of operator commands and facilities.

Audience

This course is for computer personnel who are new to VME Operating.

  • Use and format of System Control Language operator commands
  • The VME catalogue on the superNOVA.
  • Hardware representation of the superNOVA in the catalogue with relevant operator screens.
  • The virtual machine environment in VME.
  • Job scheduling in the work management system using operator screens.
  • Control of the workflow/work scheduling.
  • The Journal System and System Housekeeping.
  • Load and closedown of the superNOVA VME system.
  • Simple use of Multi-Access Computing (MAC) Facilities.
  • An explanation of superNOVA Filestore (Disc and Tape).
  • Handling Tape categories.
  • Use of the TELL command.
  • SAM and VISA error functions on superNOVA.
  • Operator commands.
  • Multi-Nodal Systems.
  • Service Printers.
